Number 0 - Message from the Rector

Eugenio Gaudio, rector of Sapienza University of Rome

Sapienza University of Rome is pleased to introduce the “number zero” issue of this new magazine dedicated to research, which presents a selection of the most notable results achieved by our university in all areas of inquiry.

Sapienza is a research university with 1900 professors and 1600 researchers that educates 112,000 students. In the decade running from 2007 to 2017, Sapienza has been awarded 35 ERC Grants and has been involved in 194 collaborative projects in both the FP7 and Horizon 2020 European Research Programmes. Sapienza has developed 37 patents and created 33 operative spin-offs.

These figures describe a large interdisciplinary scientific community that produces high-quality research to drive various sectors of society and enterprise. The magazine presents news in three major sections - Life Sciences, Physical Sciences and Engineering, and Social Sciences and Humanity – and aims to become a tool to exchange knowledge and promote scientific debate with the international community at large: academics, young researchers, enterprises and all of the university’s stakeholders.
